| Lindane Lotion |
Lindane Lotion is a very strong medicine used
to treat scabies. It is very effective at killing both
the scabies and their eggs. Scabies are very small
bugs that crawl under your skin and lay eggs. When
applied, the Lindane Lotion seeps through the skin and kills
both the scabies and their eggs. Lindane Lotion is
only used when all safer forms of medication have failed to
eliminate the scabies. The only time it is used first
is when someone can not, for whatever reason, use a safer
medication.
Do not use Lindane Lotion in any way without first
consulting your physician. You should not give your
Lindane Lotion to others, even if they experience the same
symptoms you do. It may harm them. Keep Lindane
Lotion and all other medicines out of the reach of children.
The information found on this site is to be used for general
informative use only. You should consult your
physician for more information if you are considering using
Lindane Lotion.

baby. They are especially susceptible to the negative
side-effects of Lindane treatment.
- While you are breast feeding. The Lotion may
get into your breast milk and/or seep through your skin and
affect the baby which may cause the baby to get sick.
Ask your doctor for a safer medication.
You should notify your doctor if you:
- Have used Lindane Lotion within the last few months.
- Have ever had a seizure problem a condition that
could increase your chances of getting a seizure. Some
examples of risk inducing conditions include a head injury,
tumor in the spinal chord or brain, cirrhosis of the liver,
or heavy alcohol drinking.
- Have HIV or AIDs
- Are pregnant. Lindane Lotion may be able to
affect your baby. You should ask your physician about
safer medications.
- Have a sexual partner. Your partner should
consult a physician so that they can be treated if necessary
and will not be able to give the scabies back to you.
You should not share your Lindane Lotion.
Tell your doctor about all of the medications you are
currently taking including prescription drugs,
non-prescription drugs, vitamins, and herbal

Lotion. You should especially consult your physician
if you are taking any sedatives (i.e. sleeping pills).

Before you apply it:
- Be sure you know how to use it as your doctor has
indicated.
- If you are putting it on another person, be sure to
use special gloves made of latex with neoprene, nitrile, or
sheer vinyl. You should not use natural latex gloves
because the Lindane can go through that kind of glove.
Wash your hands thoroughly when finished.
- Be sure that your skin is clean and does not have any other oil,
cream, or lotion on it. Oils can make Lindane Lotion seep
through your skin faster and can increase the risk of having
seizures.
- Wait at least one hour after showering or bathing
before applying Lindane Lotion to your skin. Wet or
warm skin can cause the Lindane Lotion to seep through your
skin more quickly and may increase your risk of seizures.
When applying Lindane Lotion:
- Shake the bottle of Lotion well.
- Be sure to put Lindane Lotion under your
fingernails, because scabies have a tendency to live
there. Also, trim your fingernails short. You
should use a toothbrush to apply the Lindane Lotion under
your fingernails. Once it has been applied under the
fingernails, wrap the toothbrush in paper and throw this
toothbrush away. Do not use it in your mouth.
- Apply a very thin layer of Lindane Lotion on your
skin from the neck down. You may have some leftover
Lotion in the bottle when you are finished.
- Do not cover over the Lotion on your skin with
anything that does not breathe. You should avoid such
things as diapers with a plastic lining, plastic clothes,
tight clothing, and blankets.
- After you are finished, close the bottle with the
leftover Lotion and throw it away in a trashcan out of the
reach of children.
When you are supposed to wash it off:
- You should wash the Lindane Lotion off your skin
after 8 to 12 hours. You must wash the Lindane Lotion
off your body completely. Use only warm water; do not
use hot water. Lindane Lotion will not kill anymore
scabies after 8 to 12 hours. After 8 to 12 hours,
Lindane Lotion can cause very serious health problems,
including seizures and death.
After washing off Lindane Lotion:
- All recently worn clothing (including underwear and
pajamas), used sheets, pillowcases, and towels should be
washed in very hot water or dry-cleaned.
- Do not use Lindane Lotion again. If you think
you need another treatment, you need to check with your
physician to find out when it will be most safe.
- It is possible that you may still itch after using
Lindane Lotion. This does not mean that you need more
Lindane Lotion. Even after you eliminate al of the
scabies, they can still cause your skin to itch for a few
weeks. Lindane Lotion can even make this itchiness
worse. You should consult your physician for ways to
soothe the itching.
